Why You shouldn’t remove Sri Lanka from your travel list
With all whats going on Sri Lanka, if someone ask me how lucky I am to be born in Sri Lanka what do you think my answer will be? Not what most of you thought. I’d say I feel very lucky to be born in Sri Lanka. Yes, its true that the people in Sri Lanka had to face lot of unpleasant circumstances that we wished never happened, yes its true that we had to go through a lot, but compared to what our beautiful little island possess and what she provides us, all what happened is not a reason for us to feel unlucky.
This beautiful little island had to face a 30 year war, the monstrous tsunami, floods, recent bomb blasting, yet she has not let us down. Yet she continues to walk forward, yet she gives the farmers a great harvest, yet she has very fertile soil, yet she has all the rivers, lakes, waterfalls full of water, yet she provides the habitat to millions of creatures, yet she has the same natural beauty she had years back.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful island which has a proud history. It has a very dense bio diversity when you consider the countries in Asia. The beautiful coastal line(Hikkaduwa, Beruwala, Arugambay, Nilaweli) enhances her beauty. The experience you get when you wander in Galle Fort’s atmospheric streets, when you see traditional dance in romantic Kandy, when you get up close to elephants at Pinnawela, when you climb to the top of Sigiriya, when you be amazed by Anuradhapura’s ruins, when you admire the view from World’s End is unforgettable. These experiences worth a lifetime. No wonder why this beautiful island recently showed up in the top travel destinations in 2019.
But this was before the Sunday easter attack. That tragic incident stole more than 250 beautiful souls, small kids, men, women. This was a huge tragedy for all the Sri Lankans. Not only that, the Sunday attack managed to tear down the tourism industry. Tourists in the island quickly left the country, the beautiful places emptied, the hotels resorts emptied while many counties imposed warnings for those who wanted to visit Sri Lanka.
But now is the time you should visit Sri Lanka. Why? Because now is the time they need you most. If you visit this beautiful island now you will not only see the best of this island, but you will see its people at their best. Sri Lankans have been in this turbulent place before. They managed to win a 30 year civil war and walked forward as a nation, they managed to face the tragic Tsunami and again managed to walk forward. This is a nation steeped in history and hardship and through it all, this little island managed to intact and resolute.
If you go through all what happened in the week the blasts happened, you will see how quickly Sri Lankans tried to rebound. How helpful they were for each other. A small announcement in local news managed to pack the hospitals with people willing to donate blood, Sinhalese, Muslims, Tamils. That unity is something Sri Lankans always possessed. People quickly grouped up to collect dry food, sanitary items, medicine for those who need them. Like the devastating 2004 tsunami, those who thought Sri Lanka could never recover were startled to witness how quickly normal life resumed.
This is why you should visit Sri Lanka. You need to see this spirit Sri Lankans possess. Not just the waterfalls or the train rides or the coastal line, Sri Lankans are the tourist attraction right now. No matter how many times they are pushed to the deep end they somehow manage to overcome their problems. The beautiful souls are a patient group of people who cannot be defeated by some natural disasters or some war. They are an idol for all the people around the world. All what they need right now is a little motivation by tourists coming down to Sri Lanka.

When talking about Sri Lanka, we should not forget the beautiful places it possess, the adventurous train rides in the hill country, the best tea Sri Lanka exports worldwide, and most importantly the authentic food culture. How they mix up the spices and gives incredibly tasty dishes. So, come to Sri Lanka for the sights, the smells and the flavour. But most of all, come for the people. Staying away or boycotting Sri Lanka from your travel list means those 20 minutes of terror inflicted on Easter Sunday will have given the terrorists what they wanted.
